Adult Learning A Partnership

The Kerang Learning Centre is a community owned and community managed, not for profit, organisation which provides adult learning opportunities. Generally the Centre provides a service to urban and rural communities within a 100 kilometre radius of Kerang, including some southern NSW communities.

The Centre is located at 11 Scoresby Street, Kerang, well positioned in relation to the local business and residential areas, with ease of access to public and private parking facilities.

The Centre was established in 1981 by a group of community minded volunteers to meet the growing demand for community based learning. The initial programs were based on hobby and leisure courses and staffed by part-time volunteer administration and managed by a volunteer Committee of Management.

The Kerang Learning Centre is a Registered Training Organisation  and registered with the Adult Community and Further Education Board to deliver Further Education courses. The program offers courses in vocational education and training, literacy and numeracy, general education and hobby and leisure. Some of these courses are accredited and Austudy approved.

The Centre is staffed by 1 full-time manager, 4 part-time administrative staff, 1 cleaning staff  and is managed by an 11 member volunteer Committee of Management. Tutors with a wide diversity of knowledge and skills are employed on a sessional basis to conduct classes.

The majority of funding comes from ACFE (the Adult Community and Further Education Board) and is distributed annually through the ACFE Regional Office in Bendigo on the basis of provision of student contact hours. Fee for service courses are offered to meet market demands. Over time partnerships were formed with other educational providers eg. Sunraysia Institute of TAFE and Bendigo Regional Institute of  TAFE to offer training on a contractual basis.
